San Diego
Living in North Park is like living in an “Urban Village” as North Park has been
called.  Many of the homes are lovingly preserved turn-of-the-century
Craftsman bungalows.  The tree lined streets and canyon cul-de-sacs give the
neighborhoods the feeling of a bygone era making North Park popular with
those who want to live close to work, have the amenities of suburbia, and be
able to walk to shopping and entertainment.

North Park has gone through revitalization in recent years and exudes vitality
reminiscent of the Bohemian era.  Take a walk through the areas of 30th
Street and University Avenue where a wide diversity of patrons meet
regularly in an ecletic array of retro 30s style restaurants, independent coffee
shops, and local bars and night clubs.   Or enjoy a leisurely stroll down Ray
Street where on the second Saturday evening of each month a number of art
galleries host "Ray at Night" with free wine, cheese and music. Dance and
music recitals are regularly featured by some of the businesses on Ray Street.
The Birch North Park Theatre is home to the Lyric Opera San Diego, and also
houses a restaurant (Hawthorn's) and a Starbucks coffeehouse.   Or, go across
the street to the friendly atmosphere of “Claire De Lune”, a large coffee lounge
which hosts small bands from San Diego each weekend.

For outdoor activities there is the popular baseball field at the North Park
Recreation Center which is named for North Park’s home-grown Hall of
Famer Ted Williams.  Every Thursday you’ll find fresh, locally grown seasonal
and organic produce, San Diego County grown flowers, gourmet and ethnic
foods, hand made arts and crafts, and live music at the North Park Farmer’s
market. North Park is also home of the Toyland Parade, one of the oldest and
at one time one of the largest parades in California.  North Park offers a never-
ending cornucopia of activities and entertainment where the San Diego zoo or
downtown San Diego is only a bike ride away.

North Park is situated to the northeast of Balboa Park, bounded on the north
by El Cajon Boulevard, on the south by Juniper Street and the South Park
neighborhood, on the east by Interstate 805 and City Heights, and on the west
by Florida Canyon and Hillcrest
